It is a utility you need, in addition to a GIF viewer such as CShow, if you are using DOS AOL and you are trying to view a GIF file uploaded by a Macintosh user. There are an enormous number of useful files available on many BBSs and online services which were uploaded  using a Macintosh computer.  Sometimes when a file is uploaded with a Mac, extra information is added which is useful only to other Macs and is prohibitive to IBM Compatibles. AOMAC2PC.EXE works on both the GIF87a and GIF89a standard GIF formats.

If you are having trouble viewing a GIF yet are unsure whether it is a MAC GIF, load the GIF into a text reader and if the word GIFfQGif  or BOZO appears withing the first few characters of the file, it is indeed a MAC GIF file.

This program strips out that information and allows you to use many of these Mac files.  This includes GIF, SND and many popular application specific file types.

This GIF stripper even works on those MAC files that are in the new GIF89a standard .
